On the ethereal boundary between dreams and reality, where land, water and sky all intermingle, TRANSIT and Leica have come together to celebrate the art of photography. Taking inspiration from the legendary masters Henri Cartier-Bresson and Sebastião Salgado, they’re looking through the lens of a Leica Monochrom. It’s a camera with an iconic reputation in the world of photography that only takes pictures in black and white, thus leading us back to the very essence of photography: the ability to draw with light.
This is the vision behind the “TRANSIT ISTANTI ETERNI” (TRANSIT ETERNAL INSTANTS) initiative, featuring a series of shots and images that capture fleeting moments packed with emotions. They tell silent stories that reveal the essence of subjects and places, creating a tangible link between the visible and the invisible, while blurring the boundaries between the real and the abstract.
The decision to present the photographs in black and white adds an extra layer of depth and intimacy to the initiative.
The strong contrasts and the rich range of tones fill each picture with intrinsic beauty, creating a sense of timelessness and placing the emphasis on the composition, lighting and emotional contents of the photographs.
We painstakingly selected Hahnemühle RAG 308 g paper for use with each of the prints. Renowned in the art print world for its exceptional properties, the acid-free, lignin-free paper is made from 100% cotton, conforms with the ISO 9706 standards and provides perfect museum quality. The lightly defined texture brings out the best of the natural white tone, which is produced without optical brighteners and makes every detail in our black and white photos strikingly distinct.
Quality is crucial, which is why we use the cutting-edge technology of EPSON ULTRACHROME PRO pigment ink printers in our printing process. It gives outstanding colour accuracy and makes every picture into a unique work of art.
The prints have dimensions of 24x36 centimetres and there’s a refined white border around them that takes the total size to 30x42 centimetres.
